Access to Work
Access to Work is a service provided by the UK government to aid disabled individuals in securing and remaining within employment, identifying, and addressing accessibility barriers within the workplace.
Eligibility
- You must be at least 16 years of age
- You must live in England, Scotland or Wales
- You must be in paid employment or about to enter paid employment in the next 12 weeks
- You must have a disability and need support to do your job or travel to and from your job
Support Available
- Funding for alternative transportation or adaptions to your vehicle
- Assistive technology
- BSL interpreters, lip readers or note takers
- Workplace support worker or job coach

Disabled Students’ Allowance
Disabled Student’s Allowance covers additional study-related costs for disabled students. Funding is allocated based upon support-needs and not household income.
Eligibility
- You must live in England and be eligible for student finance from Student Finance England
- You must be an undergraduate or postgraduate student studying within the UK (including distance learning)
- You must be studying a course that lasts for a minimum of 1 year (see list of accepted qualifying courses)
- You must have a disability that affects your ability to study
Alternative support is available for apprentices and NHS students

- Help towards additional study-related transportation costs
- Assistance with other additional study-related costs, such as additional printing costs
Scope
Scope is a charity offering advice and support for disabled people across England and Wales. Scope’s research and campaigns focus on driving change towards a fairer and more accessible society.
Eligibility
Support may not be relevant or accessible to those outside of England and Wales.

STEM with Disabilities
Based in Canada, STEM with Disabilities is working to increase the visibility of disabled people working within STEM and to support self-advocacy.

- Online pool of ideas for reasonable adjustments
Project5
Project5 supports NHS workers to take care of their own wellbeing and manage stress. As of 2021, Project5 has over 1,000 volunteers working alongside its multi-skilled core delivery team.

Disability Rights UK
Disability Rights UK seeks to improve the lives of the disabled population, championing policy change at both a regional and national level. The organisation is led by disabled people for disabled people.

Disabled in STEM
Disabled in STEM is working to affirm that disabled scientists belong in STEM. In 2022, 100 participants were involved in its mentorship initiative.

Chemists’ Community Fund
The Chemists’ Community Fund is the benevolent fund of the Royal Society of Chemistry, providing free, confidential support to members and their families.
Eligibility
- You must hold membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry
Support Available
The Chemists’ Community Fund adopts a person-centered approach and will endeavor to address any needs identified.
This includes:
- Money and advice
- Wellbeing and family
- Employment and study
The team will assess whether they are able to offer direct support or financial aid, or whether referral to an external agency would be more appropriate.
